The way you store bricks matters just as much as how you use them.
Ceramic bricks are tough, but careless storage can lead to cracks, waste, and delays. A few smart handling habits can protect your materials, save money, and keep your site running smoothly.
Keep them off the ground.
Never stack ceramic bricks directly on soil. Moisture from the ground can seep into the bricks, weakening them or causing early damage. Always use wooden planks, pallets, or plastic sheets underneath. This small step protects your whole supply.
Cover them from rain and sun.
Bricks are porous. Left out in the open, they can absorb rainwater or crack under the scorching sun. Use tarpaulins or plastic covers to shield stacks. But make sure there’s airflow—trapped moisture under plastic can cause fungus or white salt stains (efflorescence).
Stack smart, not high.
Stack bricks no more than 1.5 meters high. Go higher, and the weight below can crush or crack the bottom rows. Keep stacks neat, aligned, and stable. Think of it like Jenga—wobble leads to disaster.
Store by type, not in a pile.
Separate your 10-hole, 3-hole, and solid bricks. This avoids confusion and speeds up construction. If masons don’t have to sort through piles to find the right type, your project stays efficient.
Handle with care.
Ceramic bricks aren’t foam, but they’re not indestructible either. Don’t toss or drop them—especially the hollow ones. One careless throw can crack a brick. That’s money gone and time lost.
Use wheelbarrows or trolleys to move bricks across large sites. Avoid dragging.
Use old bricks last.
Like groceries, use the oldest stock first. If you bought ceramic bricks in two batches, use the earlier batch first. This keeps your supply fresh and prevents older bricks from becoming weathered before they’re used.
Keep a dry buffer zone near your work area.
Move small quantities of bricks closer to your construction point—but not too close to wet work like plastering or slab pouring. This keeps your bricks clean, dry, and ready for use, and avoids messes or accidents.
